I just receipt a respond from SallieMae regarding my late payment. They basicly said that they have to report accurate information to the FCRA. What should I do next? Below is what the letters said.
Dear MyName
Thank you for your inquiry and your business with Sallie Mae. In response to your recent request, we have researched your concerns regarding your student loan account with Sallie Mae. Specifically, you requested a credit bureau retraction of the derogatory information reported to the national credit agencies.
The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) requires lenders to report accurate informtion to credit bureaus, and Sallie Mae cannot retroactiverly reverse correct information previously reported.
After researching your accout, we determined that it was correctly serviced according to regulations. It is for this reason that we cannot honor your request for a credit bureau retraction.
If you have any questions, please contact our office at xxx-xxx-xxxx or write to us at the address listed on the letterhead. Please provide the account number at the time of inquiry to expedite our response to you. You may also visit our website at
