I'm a former member of First Tech Credit Union. I closed my account last summer in 2021. Just this past week I've been getting messages about my debit card being used fraudulently and when you respond to their text message saying "No" Somebody immediately calls you from First Tech's Number 855-855-8805.
I detected it almost immediately when the gentlemen who called me had a very thick accent and I kept reiterating that my account was closed last summer and he insisted that it was still open. He kept asking me about my debit card or asking me to sign into online banking and he told me i'd have to go into a branch and get a new debit card (But specifically told me not to tell the people inside the branch about the "fraud" on my account LOL) I told him I lived in Minnesota (the nearest branch to me is in Colorado) and when I asked him as to where the nearest branch is he had no idea and afterwards I asked him what state First Tech is headquartered in, and again, he had no idea (Numerous red flags hahahaha, I was just messing with him at this point) He couldn't seem to grasp that I closed the account over 6 months ago and no longer have a debit card nor do I have any online banking.
When he told me that $4500 was recently deposited into my checking account I told him that deposit wasn't made by me but told him to go ahead and close the account and mail me a cashiers check to my address on file for that money and he hung up on me immediately.
Just a FYI according to First Tech's website, any legitimate texts you get will come from the number 59314

I did reach out to First Tech via Facebook officially after talking to this gentlemen and they comfirmed it is indeed a phishing scam and I reported it to them. I gave the scammers absolutely no information at all and purposely dodged any question when they asked for any. If ever in doubt, hang up and call them yourself with their official phone number from their website. Don't assume because the call is from their very own number that it's legit, it's very, very, very, very simple for them to spoof phone numbers that show up on your caller ID when they call you making it look like it was indeed First Tech Credit Union calling me, when in fact it was a scammer spoofing a number.

Personally, I would have not engaged with the perpetrators by phone (unless you have ways to disguise your voice).
Anymore these days, it's widely known that a variety of these scammers have voice capturing/altering technology where your voice can be recorded and used against you to perpetrate more fraud somewhere else. A variety of them rely upon you contacting them (hence the phishing texts or emails) even if you don't release many details about you.
Good to know, thanks!
