Foreclosure Question

Didn't know where to put this so I put it here.

My three kids live in a home that their father (I have a different name for him that I don't think I could put here) Anyway, He didn't keep up the payments so of course he lost the house. The bank filed the foreclosure on Dec 8th 2012. How long do you think they have till they are forced to move? Will they get some sort of notice (like 30 days or 3 days) or will they just come home and find the locks changed?? They (we) are all sick over this because they are all in their early 20's and we have never had to deal something like this. Any help or insite would be great! Thanks in advance!

Re: Foreclosure Question

It all depends on how backed up the court docket is in the area that the home is in. It usually will take at least one year from the date of filing before they have to move. It could be as long as two years in some areas that have been hard hit by forclosures. They will get a 30 day notice of auction when the time comes and that is when they will have to move.

Re: Foreclosure Question

What state do they live in?

Some states have redemption periods that may allow the homeowner to stay put until that ends.

But YMMV
