Re: Fraudulent COMCAST collection account

Time Warner handed me over to them because TWC didn't bother to come get their modem like they said.  Account was less than 30 days old yet CPA was stating it was past due 90 days.  I paid to ship the modem back to TWC, got a receipt number, and they're STILL trying to get money from me.  They're probably contacting you over some equipment.  Like a DVR or Cable Modem or some such.

Good luck on your dealings with them.  Give em hell, because they're one seriously annoying company.  Double check with comcast though.  I'll bet comcast reported you to them for not returning some equipment they think you owe them.  Most likely some sort of mistake, but getting these people to go away is a hassle.

Re: Fraudulent COMCAST collection account

MyHearts,

My account went into collection due to my refusal to pay for unreliable service. Their phone service was horrible in my area and I had problems with my internet connection dropping as well.  Needless to say the account eventually made it to the CA.

Re: Fraudulent COMCAST collection account

Thanks you all for your input.  Just got off the phone with Comcast and this is for a cable box that we brought with us to our new house.  They were sending notices from the collection agency to my old address, just last Nov and Dec. 07.  The forwarding was off of the mail by then for the old address so it should have gotten returned to them, so I am being penalized for 7 years with a collection I knew nothing about.  The technician came out and set up the new service at our new house and my DH says that he (the tech) gave us a new box for the old one.  Now I have to try to find paperwork for comcast for 2 years ago.  I also would have to pay $100 if we can't find the box and they won't remove the collection, just update it to show paid.  I tell you everytime that you take a step forward with this credit stuff, you get kicked in the teeth somehow and have to take 2 steps back.  This is not going to look good to my lender when I try to refi in Mar/April this year.  Hopefully, I can explain the mixup and what happened and they won't penalize us so much for it.

Keep ya'll posted.

Re: Fraudulent COMCAST collection account

I can't find the service order that shows that per my DH he gave the technician the old box for another one.  So, I guess that I have to pay the bill, but am I stuck with this 7 year paid collection?  I have only been talking with COMCAST and not the collection agency.  Since I never received any documentation from the CA because they had the wrong address, could I dispute based on that?  They admit that they have my temp mailing address and just last year sent me out notices from the collection agency.  I feel like they should remove it because I had a new account with Comcast and they knew how to get in touch with me, is it my fault they didn't update my address in their system since they knew full well how to get in touch with me?  All they had to do was pull up my name or ssn# and they could have given the CA my right address?  Do I have legs to stand on legally?

Re: Fraudulent COMCAST collection account

I would ask them to do a serial number search for you-
Don't let them try to tell you they can't- because they can-
As you are sure the Tech picked it up when he installed your new service-

Worse case PFD with the OC.

Re: Fraudulent COMCAST collection account

You know, Tim, I am not sure because my husband was here when they did the installation.  He says that they took the old one and gave him two other ones.  One for upstairs and one for downstairs.  I can't find the paperwork so it is no way to prove it.

I have been talking with COMCAST corporate and not the CA.  I have never talked to anyone from the CA or gotten mail or a phone call.  Comcast is saying that they can only send in a letter for the CRA's to update to show paid but they can't delete.

Serial numbers are verified on both boxes but the one they are looking for is the one my DH gave to the technician he says.

Re: Fraudulent COMCAST collection account

MyHearts,

Comcast is being untruthful with you if they say they can't delete the collection.  I recieved in writing just this week a letter from CPA saying that the collection would be removed from my credit reports per Comcast's request.  The angle I took was this "I've been a loyal customer for years,  AT&T is cheaper and yet I stick with you.  I'm trying to buy a house and this is really affecting me" ....yada yada yada so on and so forth and this worked.  Keep in mind I never disputed the bill itself.  Don't accept no for an answer.  You have to be resilient.  One thing you want to keep in mind is that this is not a typical request, atleast that's the impression I got from the people I spoke with, so be very clear about what you want. You basically have to spell it out and hold their hand through the process.  Say...."This can all be done by making one simple call to CPA and asking them to remove the collection from my report." I even pointed out the fact that I knew it had been done for other customers so telling me otherwise was a flat out lie. They can get it done.

Good to know that.  I have been loyal for over 5 years.  I will tell that to the gentleman when I call him back.

Re: Fraudulent COMCAST collection account

Update..  Sent an email to AZDFI to find out if CPA is a legit collection agency and if they are authorized to collect in IL.  They are licensed however for TX and AZ.  Got an email from someone at the AZDFI and she put in a complaint to them because they violated my rights to dispute or resolve this issue with Comcast.  I told her that I never received anything from them and that this was the first of my hearing about it as it was on my CR's.  They have 10 days from tomorrow (Friday) to respond or they will get fined...

Hopefully they will be deleting this as they did not take the appropriate steps before putting this into collections.  At least if I didn't have the cable box, I could have paid or made arrangements to pay for the box without it ever having to go to collections.

Got an alert from Equifax this morning that collection account had been changed.  Here is info:

If you do not have a past due account that may have been sent to collections, contact the collection agency reporting the collection account as this may be sign of fraud.

no information is listed as far as account number, balance or status of this account.  What do you all make of this?
