Also if you go car shopping for example so car dealers don't "shotgun" your application out without your permission.. Stops them in a hurry from pulling your credit multiple times without permissions or burueas you didn't authorize them to pull but they "mistakenly" did

great ideal. so im just gonna freeze my equifax. since it always sux anyway. no matter what i do. and leave experian and transunion open. for the dealers. or maybe just leave transunion open. so even if 32 inquiries. no big deal. with them. Smiley Wink

Freeze them all... Its not unethical, car dealers are for the "most" part sleezes, you can't trust them.. Once you come to an agreement unfreeze what you and them agree upon..  This is not asking them to pick a "better" report it is so the don't pick 20 reports to every lender under the sun!

Pretty much.

I would freeze all of them and thaw the least permanent of the three.

What's the point of freezing your report?  Is it for the weak who can't garden?  LOL

If a person isn't planning to apply for any new credit, having them frozen will relieve the effort of having to monitor CRAs for potential fraudulent accounts.

Re: Freezing Credit Reports...

Is it simple to unfreeze? And can you freeze, 2 weeks later unfreeze and then freeze a few days after that? Or is there a limit? Thanks.

Sure, but, depending on the State, there may be a fee associated each time.

Or you can just monitor your reports through myFICO, CK, CS, etc.. etc.. and save money on freezing/thawing fees.

I used the "lock" feature directly on the TU site.  It worked for sure because I appd for the Lowes card and was insta-denied to which I received a letter stating the file was unaccessible.

Now question:  Having it frozen, does this prevent my good activities updating each month?

No, a credit freeze prevents HP inquiries - that's all it does.

Just as an "opt out" prevents promotional SP inquiries - that's all it does.

A freeze will prevent an app that requires a HP from going through.

There are some credit monitoring sites - including FICO itself - that can't pull through a freeze or opt out. Credit Sesame is another one. Credit Karma has no problem pulling thru a freeze and/or opt out. I find it curious that FICO monitoring service is incompetent with pulling frozen/opted out reports they clearly have the right to do.

I agree... Have all three reports frozen now.. Only one I expect the 3 monitoring service to pick up is equifax Smiley Sad...  You would think you gave them the right they should be able to SP you even with a Freeze!  The three bureau monitoring service from this site deffinetly needs alot of work left.. When frozen I can't even pull my Experian report alone from this site either Smiley Sad..   In the past if I ever needed to check I had to do a Temporary lift to get a report...  What a hassle..  Freezes are awesome, but have huge drawbacks as well

Interesting.  My reports have been frozen for awhile I still get all the updates with the 3B monitoring.  I did have to temp unfreeze when I first signed up but haven't had any issues since.
