Now that my reports are clean and I'm in the 'very good' range of the 750, I think it's time to freeze my reports to safeguard against identity fraud
the question is once you put in a freeze with the CRAs you need a PIN number to unfreeze
do you get to pick your own pin or do they assign one to you?
if u get to pick your own, then I'll remember it. If they assign one to me I'll have to write it down
They assign you a pin. If you freeze and thaw online then a pin is not needed.
EX and TU make you create your own PIN. I don't believe EQ requires one.
You need a username and password that you pick.

I use the website for each CRA and I don't have a PIN, I can just login and turn on/off the freeze as I wish

Same for me.
Ditto what I said before. Website or app, username and password.
Another question regarding freezes.
do all soft inquiries still go through
ie Cli SPs, account reviews, SP to update report and score from my fico, pre approvals, ect

CLI SPs will go through since you already have an account open with the issuer. Pre approvals may not if you don't have an account open with the bank in question.
In my case I had Pins and maybe a year ago ... I had to set up new accounts with User Name and Password.
It works much better than the old PIN method. Glad they changed it!
