Super frustrated that my credit score loses points from utilization because Equifax has reported my Cap One Card that is open and curren, Closed/transferred/sold 5 times in four months! I have lost and gained and lost again, points from hard work on my credit report!
Currently on the phone with Cap One who states that they are reporting it correctly. Mind you, it gets updated correctly after an escaltion dispute through the credit department, but 2-3 wks later, reported closed again! This latest call is now 45 mins and counting...
I can't begin to tell you how many hours I have spent writing disputes, calling Cap One and Equifax and I end up with the exact same result! Equifax CSR are notorious for NOT LISTENING to why you are calling before spewing that "it will take anywhere from 30-90 days to correct this problem, if it is our error!" Capital One has written, 7 letters to them stating the account is open, current. Yet, this keeps happening. WHY?!
I am filing a complaint against Equifax today. I have to admit, Cap One helped me rebuild credit and in two years I have gone from $300 to $57G in credit (Praise the High Heavens), buy managing it properly and losing points from hard work is very frustrating!
In two years, I will be completely clear and moving on to cards and companies that care about consumers. However, the credit bureaus that are reporting information should have some sort of standard about their company to report accurately! Still learning about laws as they relate to credit bureaus, but enough already. I have to fight for myself and that begins with education on these companies that thrive on reporting inaccurate information. I treat my credit like homework now, because I have to!
I just wanted to vent. I have learned a lot here! So thank you to the contributors on this forum!
Still on hold...and inching back into the 700 club!
Woosah!

Maybe, that's how!
Turns out is was the result of Equifax incorrectly reporting it closed. Now, how that happend (computer or manual input) is still in question. After they received multiple documents about the account being opened, several weeks later is was closed again. This error was fixed OVERNIGHT! I was on the phone for almost 2 hours yesterday!
They admitted the error, but could not pinpoint who or what caused it to happen so many times.
I am glad that Equifax fixed the issue for you.
You may want to consult a competent consumer law attorney to find out if you should be compensated for emotional and/or financial distress due to Equifax's fault.
