GMAC-- HELP

I got my score watch notice today and GMAC reported me 30 days late, this caused a 73 point drop in my score.  73 points.  I am so angry because I feel like this was not my fault.  Last month, I was unable to make my car payment, it was going to be 30 days late so I called GMAC to get an extension.  The payment was due in  the 13th.  I called on the 11th to discuss paying the extension fee, 306.00, the guy that I talked to assured me that the extension was processed and that I needed to get the money to them by the 18th.  He said just send us a check and we will get it taken care of.....  I was thrilled bc I really didn't have the 306.00 and I was going to have to borrow it, this exta time assured me I could pay it and would not have to borrow the $$. Then they reported me late. I called and called and called today. Customer service was like well we did not get the payment on the 13th so it is 30 days late and it will be reported that way.  I finally got someone to transfer me to quality assurance, but they told me there was nothing they could do for me.  I asked about an address to send a GW letter to and was told that they did not have an address like that.  I feel like if I could just talk to someone who can do something about it, they may agree that this was a misunderstanding and given a good payment history, maybe they would be willing to change this for me.  I am devestated, because up til today it had been 14 months since I had a late payment.  I was planning to buy a house in the spring, but I believe lenders wont even talk to you if you have any lates in the last 12 months.

Any advice?  Please HELP

Re: GMAC-- HELP

Sorry for your score decrease. Anytime a payment is not made by the original due date, regardless if an extension is granted,  it's considered late.  I worked in customer service before, and when people call to request an extention on their utility bill, they are still charge a late fee for not paying by the original due date.

Re: GMAC-- HELP

Well, I am still trying to fight this!  I was given wrong info which caused this to happen.  I have been calling and calling, they probably hate me there, oh well.  I talked to executive customer relations, they told me that if I could find out who misinformed me and prove it, then that would be the only way to resolve this.  Apparently they are unable to tell who I talked to by looking at the notes, so I have requested that since all calls are recorded, getting the recording from the  phone call, hopefully, this will clearly show that GMAC misinformed me causing me to pay late. Wish me luck!

Re: GMAC-- HELP

I've heard that GMAC is a pain to deal with, as DI said, you were technically late so it's not an error.  You can try to GW them, I would also try to talk to someone to see if you could get it deleted if you still pay the extension fee.  It's worth a try, if you're going for a mortgage the difference in your FICO score with the late vs without the late could be thousands of dollars due to a higher interest rate over the course of you mortgage term, so paying the extension fee could be a bargain.

Re: GMAC-- HELP

I've also worked in customer service and I can give you this piece of advice, you don't want to antagonize the person(s) that you need assistance from.  Technically you did make a late payment, and you need their good will to not report it as such.  Even if they did grant you the extension, the payment was still later than your original due date, so they could have given you the extension and reported you late.  The extension would just be a courtesy so that they would not consider you in default of your contract.

They know exactly who talked to you.  When customers call, the CSR is required to leave a contact on the account so that the next CSR will know what was said.

Re: GMAC-- HELP

This is another thing that infuriates me, they granted the extension, I paid the fee, and they still reported me late.  So now, I am being reported late and am out the 306.00 for the extension.  They are not willing to do anything for me.  The lady I talked to in executive customer service gave me the address to write a GW to.  She told me when it gets there, it will be transferred to her department and they will just deny it anyway....  I am so pissed aboutthis.  My score dropped 73 points, that will take months to get back!

Did that $306 include late fees?  I can't imagine GMAC charging that much for an extension only.  That just not GMAC.   They work with its customers.

Re: GMAC-- HELP

They told me the extension fee was 306.00.  My late fee is completely seperate. I disputed this with equifax, and they replied today that GMAC responded with that being a correct derogatory mark.  They also have me 30 days on TU report for Aug, 2008, only on TU, I know that is wrong, so I requested a dispute with them for that as well. Also requested a print out from GMAC of my acct history, so that way I can go over this with a fine tooth comb.

GMAC isn't going to remove the lates. If you ever decide to finance a new vehicle with them in the future, they may delete the entire tradeline.
