I am writing to ask if on behalf of MercyCollege you would consider making a goodwill adjustment to the credit reporting bureaus on my paid closed account.
I am asking if you remove the adverse account information from the credit bureaus. In understand this is a rather unusual request—particularly since my account went into collections.
To be honest, I went through some trying times over the last few years. The reason the account I had with MercyCollege went into collections is because I sent my son out of state to complete middle school and high school in Walterboro, South Carolina – they afforded him educational opportunities and the additional life skills I wanted to provide to my son that the New York school system could not. In making this choice I realized how it has impacted his life so greatly, at the same time I fell behind in my payments with MercyCollege in trying to pay for his boarding and expenses-- financially it was very difficult particularly being a single parent with no support. I share this not to justify why the payments were late, but rather to show that the late payments are not a good indicator of my actual credit worthiness.
This experience has been a “wake-up" call for me regarding financial organization. Since then I believe I have learned the essential organizational and financial management principles I desperately needed at that point. Thankfully, responsible credit management is now reflected in my credit records which -- excluding the collection entry -- are very good.
I am in the process of shopping for a mortgage, and it has come to my attention that the collection notation from MercyCollege may preclude me from taking full advantage of the very lowest interest rates now available. Since the notations do not reflect my current status with Mercy College, I am requesting that on behalf of Mercy College you please give me a second chance at a positive credit rating by deleting the trade lines from the (3) credit reporting agencies, Trans Union, Experian and Equifax..
Please let me know if any additional documentation would assist in reaching a positive outcome.
Regardless of your decision please know that I thank you for the time you have spent reading this letter and hope to enroll in MercyCollege one day.
Sincerely,
Signed Me
