I have a couple GW letters I plan on writing. Problem is that I don't have the full account numbers anymore! I pulled my EQ report earlier this week and it Xs out the last 4 digits. Do I have to include the account numbers in the letters? Will it work if I just refer to "a closed account in my name"? If i have to have the numbers, what are the chances that the company will let me have those over the phone?
I'm really hoping someone has been successfull in GW letters without the account numbers.
Thanks!! I'm learning SO much on these boards!

Hi tleventer,
Have you pulled your free reports from the annualcreditreports.com site? They are direct from the CRAs and will have full details including full account numbers for each account.
Cheers!
CB
Hi CB.
Yes. Pulled EQ earlier this week from ARC.com. All account numbers end in XXXX instead of the actual numbers.
Hi tleventer...
I'll tell you what I had to do. On mine I had to piece mine together. On these reports I pulled it had all but the last four so when I pulled from annualcreditreport it had my last four only. So I just used both reports to get my account numbers and that is how I wrote my letters for the one's I didn't have the numbers for. Hope it helps. Goodluck.
No, you do not have to provide full account numbers. That is a privacy act statute issue. You just have to provide personal identification.
Your credit report may not be repoting the full account numbers, for condifentility reasons involving others that may make a legitimate pull of your CR, but the OC who has reported to the CRA has it. No OC needs a full account number to identify you.
Send them as much as you have, including posting data and dates that they have made to the CRAs, along with your personal information.
If that fails, you always have recourse under FCRA 609(a) to request this full information from the CRA. This requires payment of a fee to the CRA in the amount of $10.50 under FCRA 612(f), but is always availble.
Here is what you should send if this is your last choice:
"This is a written request under FCRA 609(a)(1) for all information in my credit file relating to a reported account with you by creditor (name of creditor).
"More specifically, this request includes request for the full name, account number, and address reported to you by this creditor. ( include anything else you want, as part of full information on the reported data in your file)
"My personal identification in support of this reqest is as follows: (provide your name, address, and SSN). (yeah, this is required)
"I understand that this request requires payment of the current fee of $10.50, under FCRA 612(f). Enclosed is my check to cover the expense of this request."
