My question is, If lets say I have a cell phone bill for $131.00 which was in collections with verizon, Then a CC tries to collect several years later, can they add a whole different line for the exact same account they may have bought? Here is what I'm referring to on my report:

Re: General question

Both can report, but only one (the CA) can report a balance. I would DV the CA and call VZW. VZW has the power to recall this CA and calling them could facilitate that. It may be that Verizon Wireless sold it to Pinnacle. If that's the case, then you could get VZW to delete.

Re: General question

Thanks again these are the only 2 neg lines on my report. Scores at median of 624 and have been working to get back on track. Maybe buy a house this year.

Re: General question

VZW isn't all that unwaivering. Be very friendly and persistent with them. Calling them would provide you with a wealth of info, if you ask the right questions. I was able to get a PFD with them in part to the dozens of phone calls (and letters, faxes, and e-mails) I made to them.

Re: General question

What can I do if both the original company Verizon and the CA are both showing balances for the same account.

I just noticed that Verizon Wireless still shows a balance of $131.00 and the CA Pinnacle also states a balance of $131.00. Pinnacle even has a note stating its the Verizon Wireless bill thats charged off.

Re: General question

I'd still DV the CA and call VZW asking for info. Both cannot report a balance.

Re: General question *****UPDATED GOOD NEWS..

So Verizon wireless called me today and after speaking to them on the phone just yesturday, I used this number 1-800-760-4658 to call them, they called me back this morning and said the TL will be removed and its already been submited.. Nice.. All I said to them yesturday was there was a big misunderstanding and I was willing to pay right now in full she said she would check into it and then actually called me back this morning saying I had to pay nothing and it was being deleted. So does this mean Pinnacle will no longer be able to TL me and have to remove there TL? I'm DV'ing them as suggested.

THANKS VERY MUCH LLECS !!!!!

Re: General question *****UPDATED GOOD NEWS..

Sounds like VZW sold the debt at one point and it ended up with Pinnacle. VZW has an SOP of deleting themselves if they sold the debt. You may have to deal with Pinnacle. I would hold off doing anything and wait a month or so. If Pinnacle is still reporting, then DV and offer a PFD if they verify.
