Getting Late CC Payments Removed

Hi All

I've read a lot about getting judgements and collections removed, but can't find anything about late payments. I have one from a year or two ago with Bank of america. I was traveling liek crazy and just forgot to pay my visa bill. BoA thoughtfully called me after it was 30 days late and they'd applied all the late fees. I said I'd go online and pay it immediately. Prior to leaving my hotel room for a meeting, I looged on, saw there were two payments outstanding, my now due one and the 30 day past due one. I selected the current payment due and paid plenty to cover both. Finally, the online form asked me if I wanted to make the payment. I've no idea how, but I was thinking it was asking me if I wanted to make the past due payment so I said no. Sure enough, I'd said no to a payment I had intended to make. So I have 60 day late penalty on my card

I also had an Platinum Amex last time I lived here. When I went to work in the middle east, I swapped it back for a gold one. About a year later, I get a call from either Amex or a collection agency saying I owed Amex $500. I was suprised by this, as I thought any remaining balance had been transfered to my gold card. I paid immediately, but that's on my credit report. I've been living back here for about 2 years and have a platinum (Open Samll Business Card). I spend about $50-60K per year on it and alwasy pay it off.

Is it possible to get these removed from my credit report?

Re: Getting Late CC Payments Removed

hi mark_uk and welcome!

Look up GW letters on the Frequently Requested Threads.  This is essentially what you need BoA and AMEX to do.

If your BoA account is still open, try calling them first and asking if they will do this for you due to the travel and other issue.  If you had a good history with them otherwise, they should do it as a courtesy.  If not, write the GW letter and repeat every 6 weeks until they budge.

As for AMEX, their customer service is pretty good.  I would think they would get this all corrected over the phone for you as you generate much $$ for them and they should not want to lose that.  Again explain the oversight and that you had no idea the balance was not transferred over and you did pay as soon as you were made aware of the error.  They hopefully will tell you right then and there that they will have it corrected.  Get the persons name and department.  If again it's a no go, write the GW letter.
