How did you lock utilities?

@SleeplessinMA - I want to know the above also. Thanks
@TattnallTrio @xenon3030 @Caribsa89
I have Lifelock so I placed locks on the three credit bureaus, checksystems and utilities from there. When the EQ breach happened, I signed up for Lifelock. You can also place a fraud alert by going to checksystems on the web, NCTUE (utilities). A quick Google search will give you all the information you need, not sure if I am restricted from giving out any phone numbers or other information. Don't forget Lexus Nexis and Innovis, another two credit agencies, I placed a freeze online last night, they are sending mail to my address regarding the freeze. I need to give Lexis Nexis a call this morning. I just saw a post on here last night mentioning them. I read they will place a freeze on Sagestream (another credit agency) when you freeze Lexus Nexis. You can also place fraud alerts there also. Extended fraud alerts will require a police report.
Wow... @SleeplessinMA they took the words out of my mouth. I've never heard of a lock before. When I froze LN, Sagestream, and Innovis, they were all rather accurate so no issues there, but maybe it's time for a lifelock product for everyone. Wonder if they have a family plan.
You do not need lifelock. You can place alert, lock or freeze for free anywhere.
I used lifelock for a few months some time ago. One day, I received an alert call from them saying my personal data was found somewhere. When I called them back, I realized that they found my data on their own server . It looked like they identified themselves as a threat
. After that, I decided to cancel that service.
I believe they do have a family plan. Xenon3030 is right that you can place the locks for free. I placed the locks on Checksystems and the Utilities before I joined Lifelock. I did call LN yesterday morning to put the freeze on Sagestream and LN, Innovis is sending some correspodence about the freeze I placed the day before. That is hysterical that lifelock identified themselves as a threat, lol. MyFico was the first one to notify me of the breach, the others, like Discover soon followed.
Citibank, Discover and Amazon give you the option to lock your cards to any new purchases but will honor any reoccurring purchases you already have set up. You can unlock them at any time.
Have to do something. It's like the barbarians are at the gate constantly... its crazy. Thanks for the good information @SleeplessinMA and @xenon3030
I don't know what you've done so far, however, I think a fraud alert and a freeze with the credit agencies is a good place to start. I have to gather all the "evidence" to head down to the police station to file a report, where my card was already compromised, I really would like an extended fraud report. I am just overwhelmed with all of this.
I was always concerned about this as my credit score improved. Nobody wanted to steal my identity when my credit score was in the high 587's I didn't work this hard for some jerk to reap the benefits!
Best of luck with all of this.
You're welcome
You can freeze your credit reports and unfreeze them when you put the mortgage application in. I would talk to your mortgage broker when you put the app in. I'm sure he may have some advice in a situation like this. I would place a fraud alert on my credit reports, for peace of mind. I called one (EQ) and they took my information and notified TU and EX.
I left T Mobile for another carrier around the time the breach happened, I have read that others haven't been associated with TMobile in years and some have never had an account with them.
Good luck with your mortgage!
