HSBC

Got a question...when I fill out the HSBC Credit Card Selector Application online, and I enter in my SSN, are they doing a hard inquiry on my credit report or just viewing it? I don't want another hard pull, but I would like to see what they offer...thanx

Re: HSBC

They will do a hard pull. I have a card with them and saw a soft pull on my report, they sent me a pre-approval letter with a code online. When I used the online it did a Hard Pull. 0% interest til March 2008. The APR on my 2nd card with them is half of my other one. I will ask for a reduction again in a few months.

Re: HSBC

Actually, the form online will just pull a soft to recommend a card.. if it finds you a card you get a hard after finishing the app.

Thanx...that's what I need to know. I wanted to know if that was a soft pull 1st, THEN a hard pull if I apply. Thanx Tuscani

Re: HSBC

Timothy, the thing you are talking about isn't what the OP is talking about, I don't think. HSBC has this feature on their website where you fill out this preliminary application, including your SSN, address, employment, income, etc. If you then click "continue," it does a soft pull and recommends a card for you based on the results it sees (it doesn't show you the results, just recommends a card). I feel like it's a great way to get an idea of your credit score without subscribing to a service. You just fill out the preliminary app, and if it shows you the Weekend Card (2% back on weekend purchases, 1% other times), you have a pretty high score. An ordinary rewards card, a somewhat lower score, a no rewards card, lower still, and a secured card, lower still. The Weekend Card looks really good, too; I was thinking, well, how much shopping will I do on the weekend, and then I said to myself, well, with a little planning, I could do almost all of it then.

Re: HSBC

Thanks Mike- We are all in agreement that when you actually apply they do a Hard pull. As far as getting my score up- they could not go down much further. 482 to 602. I took over the finances in my household. Used my bonus to get back on track. paid of of my accounts current. Reduced my balances from 3000 down to 500 Created a budget and using the cash flow feature to keep on track. I PIF on 2 of my 4 CC's and will pay the other 2 off in the next few months. Zapped a few baddies off via dispute. I am doing some GW letters to hopefully fix some lates- MY Student loans didn't get paid for 6 months x4 accounts = 24 lates. The thing that has made this not go faster is the wife racket up 20K in cc debt and this will get paid off either by OCT 08 or when my scores are high enough to pull a Home Equity loan. My wife has learned her lesson- it is going to take her a long time to see that 700 FICO again.

Re: HSBC

Please be careful, I will not make any panic, but business with this company is not recommending. I filled out an application with landingtree over the internet for refinance. 3 company's coming up so far, One of this company's was HSBC. They called me and send me a letter, but because I have had problems with them in the past, I did not answer them. 3 days later I found a hard inquiry on my CR with out my permission. HSBC and Benefical/Haushold is the same group and they have had a big lawsuit in 2002. I will everybody warn for this company and when you read my other messages, you can see, that this company is coming up very often. Sorry that I stepped in in this discussion.
