Hello Everyone - Can someone answer a quick question?

Hello Everyone.

This is a wonderful message bd. and their is a lot of good info. So much I don't know where to begin.

I have a couple small credit cards that I did not open and they have gone into collection. I was not aware of these. I just recently pulled my report and saw them.

What I want to know is.....What is the proof they need to validate that the debt is mine? Is there a listing of this info or law?

Also can you do DV to credit card companies as well as Collection companies?

Welcome!!

Dispute with CRAs as "Not Mine". The CC will have to validate.
If these cards are NOT yours, and the CC DOES validate, the do a MOV. They will have to provide *proof* that the account is yours - like a signed application.
Look at the frequently requested threads sticky and you will find good letter writing templates.

Good Luck!

You can't DV an OC, but can a CA.

TexMontana,

Sorry a little confused with the accronims

I did dispute them with all three CRA's - they are still in process - almost complete.

But not seeing them come off as of yet. Do the CRA validate with the Credit card company or collection company?

I am trying to figure my next step.

Do I send a DV to the credit card company as well as the Collection company?

 Which did you dispute?

You can not send a DV to the CC because they are the OC, but you can the CA...you only have 30 days from the intial communication to send.

All of the cards are listed as Charged off and some look like they have been sold to a Collection Agency. I can DV a CA but cannot do a DV to a CC...

Then how do I get a CC to remove what is not mine...

If the account shows up on your credit report twice (once from the OC, and once from the CA) I would dispute BOTH listings as "not mine" with the CRA.

godzilla, welcome to the forums.  You need to make a police report for ID theft!!!  get a copy of the report.

after the CRAs complete the dispute.....if verified......open another dispute    send CRAs  copy of police report   and dispute *not mine*   AND  have them put a fraud alert on your account.

DV the CA      if they validate....then send them a letter stating that account was ID THEFT    send copy of police report.

Never sign anything going to a CA!!
