Here's my situation, I have a few cc's that have been recently c/o (totally irresponsible) and I am now trying to pay them off. Here is where I'm confused: The debt is mine, I am willing to pay it off in full, i've called the OC to try to reconcile the debt but they are telling me that it has been sold and that i'll have to go through the CA. BUT the OC is who is reporting the debt, not the CA. Sooo....what should I do???
1) call the CA and offer to pay the debt AFTER a contract is recieved in writing stating the debt is paid in full and they will not sell the account?
2) Write a GW to the OC asking to delete tradeline with the payment attached?
I'm confused! I've been reading but see conflicting responses.
BTW...the OC's are Macys, Walmart and Target
Thank you!

If the CA isn't reporting then consider yourself lucky. How old are the debts? If they're close to falling off anyway you can do nothing until the CA reports, if they report at all. Otherwise, if you've verified with the OC what CA they sold to and you're ready to pay, you can just offer the CA a PFD, or in your case a pay to no report. You can attempt GW with the OCs to have those tradelines deleted.
An OC can report a CO for approx. 7 years from DOFD. It doesn't matter if they sold it.
If the OC reports a CO with a Bal $0 then they sold the debt. If they report a Bal owed then they still own the debt.
Look at your TU or EX CR to see what the drop date is. It will say something like....will remain on CR until month/year. You can also count backwards from that dat to get your SOL.
The CO date doesn't matter it goes by DOFD/DOLA
