Help! Letter for unauthorized inquiries needed

Does anyone have a letter / sample of a letter for an unauthorized credit inquiry?  I have an inquiry showing up for Affinity / EDU Direct on my experian report.  In the comment section, it says: Educational Loan - I have NO IDEA who or what this is nor did I give permissible purpose for this inquiry.

Also, what are the laws against this?

Thanks.

Smiley Happy  Hi SmartCookie  - I've been here & there (working!! - LOL!) Popping up when I can.

I thought it was a $1,000 violation.  Thanks so much for the quick response and the link.

You're on it tonight! Smiley Wink

CMRRR, yes.  Read that entire thread though, or at least the full first page I think it explains how much the vios are.

So weird you got this INQ!  You don't happen to have a child in Sylvan or anything do you?  Someone here posted a while ago regarding a Sallie Mae that was on her reports after putting her child into a class there.

If not... how are you going to spend that violation cash?  Smiley Very Happy

I thought so too.  And, if it were not for these boards, I would not be aware of this and probably would have done nothing thinking they had a reason.  (crazy, I know - and I know better now)

No, no children or any other reason for them to do an inquiry.  I'll look for that thread too.

Do these companies really pay up like that?  I mean, is it that easy (if they are wrong)?

If so, I'd spend the violation cash (she laughs) ... on a BILL!!!  Smiley Very Happy

Re: Help! Letter for unauthorized inquiries needed

Sometimes it scares me to think that I suppose I could just have easily been a person who was unaware of credit reporting as I am aware.  People go day to day having no clue that this is even something to check, you know?

Bizarre on this... very strange.

I have been lucky (or unlucky maybe?!) enough not to have to issue one of these letters myself, but apparently it is not at all uncommon to get a settlement out of the deal (see Noah's post there regarding the $500 edit) if requested as the INQ would probably like to avoid court (my words).

And going to court is not a guaranteed $1,000.... but in your case sounds like it would be.

You are SO RIGHT!  I now encourage people to pull their reports and see what's there (many are still without a clue and continue to procrastinate - They'll realize it when they most need credit though)

...will do.  And, thanks for keeping me informed.

"Holiday shopping" - now you know I like your idea better Smiley Happy
