Help getting inaccurate collection removed

Hey everyone. So I happeded to check my credit karma today, and I see a collection for $140 dollars for a gym near my house. I was a memeber of the gym like 3 years ago. I stopped going. The gym also sold to a new owner, and I am not and have never been a member of the new gym. But I see the collection on my report for the 140 dollars. I called the gym and they said call back tomorrow to speak with someone in finance. And I called the collection agency listed on credit karma for this collection and they said they cant request for it to be deleted. They said the option was to pay it in full and it will be reported as "paid" on the report, but still show there is/was a derogatory mark on it. Which I dont want.

I'm trying to build my life up, get a mortgage soon, etc... and I cant have a derogatory showing on my report for something that is totally not fair. How do I go about getting this completely off my report?

Note: I also never even recieved a call or letter about this.

Since they're nearby, you can use the roy Mercer approach. Call finance and ask how Bigga boy he is and how he'd like an a$$ whupp'in. Tell him since you left there, you've been going to a king pao fighting gym and he's gonna get the pao!

Call the finance department and explain to them that you canceled your membership and left in good standing owing nothing under the previous ownership.
Let them know that you understand that mistakes happen and things slip thru the cracks when businesses change hands.
be courteous and respectful.
Ask them if they can pull the debt back from the  collection agency if you will pay it in full with them, even tho it wasn't owed to begin with.

if that doesn't work you can always dispute it online with the credit bureaus or try for a pay for delete.

if you use the search bar at the top of your email app you might be able to dig up an email confirmation of your cancellation

if you could find that I would dispute and attach that as supporting documentation

Re: Help getting inaccurate collection removed

Ask the collection agency and the gym for written proof that the $140 is owed by you.  If they do not supply compelling justification that you are in fact liable for the debt, simply dispute it directly with the 3 bureaus, providing as much evidence that you have.  I'm sure you will prevail.  Absolute worse case is you'll at least be able to put a consumer statement next to this derogatory on your report that states you do not agree with the debt's validity.

I would not pay it if it is not owed.  But that's up to you.
