Help with CLI upon Activation

When requesting a credit limit increase upon activation with a new credit card do you call the number and use the automated system or do you speak with a customer service representative?

I figured all they could tell me was no - And, I wanted to try up front b/c I read someplace that you cant call and request a CLI with them they automatically grant them at 6 months and 1 year - (not sure of the validity though)

   Naah, SmartCookie, it was a soft inquiry - looked @ Experian and there's a soft inquiry dated 10/22/07.
