Back in January I received a notice that one of my credit cards would be charging a $15 montly maintanence fee (with or without a balance) so I closed the account (couldn't stand to think of paying them $180 in addition to a $50 yearly fee for a card I never use) . It was my oldest credit card and had a $950 limit.
I closed that account in February and also paid off all my other credit card debt. I now only have a $13 balance reporting on one of my cards.
Do you think I messed up too bad by closing that one account?
TIA

After reading the suggested article I think you made the right decision. I would have done the same thing for the same reason. i would think about getting a second credit card with no annual fee just in case. You might inquire at your bank or local credit union.
As long as there was no balance on it you will be fine. if there was, you might get a util dinguntil the closed card is PIF based on your total util. In any case it was the correct descion.
Thank you.
Thank you. There was no balance on the card.
The only thing that it would have affected was your debt to credit ratio. Even then, the damage is so minimal you can disregard it. They need you, you don't need them. You did the right thing by sending them packing and you can easily find a new card with no annual fees. The monthly fee is a ridiculous concoction... the things CCCs come up with.
