Ok so when I apply for my Amex PRG card it will just be an inquiry on my report. Then looking for a car loan is going to add another inquiry and change my AAOA.
If you're approved by Amex and for a car loan, you will have a least two new hard inqs. Amex might pull all three of your reports, it really depends on what they first see on your EX report. When both new accounts report to the CRA's chances are your AAoA will shrink. Of course, I don't know what's exactly on your reports. Some times you have to make a hard decision. Do you app for what you need and want in a short time span? Or, do you space the apps out over years? I tend to favor the former if you're still pretty young.
Sounds like a plan. After those two new accounts, go and garden for some time. You DON'T need a thick file to hit the 800+ Club. My wife's file used to be thick with lots of SL tradelines. Now, I think my wife reports have 6 accounts and her FICO 08 scores are around 815. So, for you it's about getting the lates of your reports and sitting tight after you app for the car and the CC. Good luck!
I feel for ya. I was in credit hell for YEARS. Then came the agonizing rebuilding. Sometimes some people have it easier than others. Of course, I had the advantage of a few things that aren't available to folks today. Back in 2008 (I think), I became an AU on my wife's Chase Visa card. They let us turn the account into a joint account. I inherited the entire history of the account and that really lengthened my credit history. It did wonders for my FICO scores. Time and patience will help you through it all, tho.
