How do I approach this delicate/dispute situation?

I had an auto loan that was paid off in 2006. My credit report showed 3 entries for this loan, as it had been sold/transferred at one time. I had two bad entries for the loan because of a late payment. One of the records in the bad trade lines was incorrect - it shows eight 30-day late payments. I did not have these. The other bad entry showed the same loan with two 30-day lates. That was correct and I will admit, to having two 30-day lates in the 5 year loan.

The same loan is showing up in my satisfactory accounts. My concern is that if I dispute the remaining baddy (which is now incorrect with the eight 30-day lates) because it's already showing in the satisfactory accounts, that the credit bureau will delete the good account, leaving me with the bad one.

The reason I think this is that when I filed my latest dispute and asked for them to delete one of the duplicate baddies, as it was double recorded, they didn't delete the one I specifically referenced and asked to have deleted (the one that showed the eight 30-day lates)- instead, they deleted the one that showed the correct two 30-day lates from 2002.

Any suggestions on what I should do here? I'm wondering if instead of requesting the bad duplicate to be deleted, that I should just dispute the lates. I'm so afraid they will delete the record that is showing as one of my good trade lines.

I would think... your good accounts and your bad accounts are on different sections of your credit report.  If you reference the bad account only and don't mention as duplicate... they should just work on the bad one your reporting.  Just dispute it as paid as agreed, it's then the banks job to report how many lates you really had or else it should update as a paid account with no lates.
