How do you conduct the initial phone conversation with a CA

First, a big HOW DO, to the good forks here in the ForumsSmiley Wink

Second, My apologies if this is a repeat thread

Today, I received a VM from a CA ( could not catch the name on their after hours answering machine),so I am not sure what this is regarding.I  pulled my EX report  via freecreditreport after getting this message. So far no ding from this CA's, and no alerts on the 3 in 1 monitor either. I would like to keep it so, but I am unsure how to conduct the call back. I have seen threads on how and when to DV or send MOV's, but nothing on this.

Thanks for any advice

Simple, You tell that that you want to conduct all communication in writing. Reason, when writing you are less likely to say something that you will regret later. You can write it today and then sleep on it come back and edit it tomorrow. Lather rinse and repeat until it is down to what you want to say. Then type name at bottom, do not sign and send it in.

You don't. ALL communication with a CA is in writing.

Look for inquiries, even soft ones. Most usually pull your CR before contacting. I personally wouldn't talk to them on the phone. Type their phone number into google and you might find who it belongs to. They should be sending a letter. I believe they have to do send you a letter within 5 days of initial contact I'd think a voice message would count as initial contact.

Re: How do you conduct the initial phone conversation with a CA

I tried to talk to one on the phone a few weeks ago...

ME:  "I will not discuss this matter with you over the phone.  Please send the information in writing to <address>."
CA: "We have been sending stuff for months."
ME:  "Since I have not gotten anything, you must be using a wrong address"
CA:  "Since you have not paid this debt, what is another letter going to do?"
ME:  "How do I know that you are not some crook?"
CA:  " I HAVE YOUR CREDIT HISTORY; A LOAN WITH <bank>; A CC WITH <CCC>, IF I WANTED TO STEAL FROM YOU I WOULD HAVE ALREADY DONE IT"  {yes he was yelling"}
ME:  {calmly} "Get your supervisor on the phone please"
...more arguing...the supervisor hung up on me!

A$$holes....ALL OF THEM.

BTW...this is the nice one.  I have one from R & R Collections in Midland Texas who is a certified JERK.

First, a huge thank you to Cowpaddi, Cobra19 and Sidewinder. With trying to sound overly dramatic. You guys are like; that one Titan in the Greek myth that stole the fire for the Gods and gave it to man. Sharing is caring. I was all set to make a huge error in judgment. Once again, thank you guys for the big save. ______________________________________________________________________________________ Sidewinder wrote: Look for inquiries, even soft ones. I may have to pull my three fico's for the inquires from the other bureaus.(My next schedule pull was the end of April, shooting for every 3 mos)I will try to google the number, thanks for the tip. Honestly I am a bit anxious about waiting for their letter, but I will follow the advice here to the letter.

Felix, you won't see softs on myfico reports. You have to get a full report from annualcreditreport.com or someplace like that.

BTW, if you have firefox, you can fix the "widescreen" problem by checking the box that says Automatically convert carriage returns to HTML or something like that.

Wow, many thanks to all. Am I an idiot? This seems like common sense to you guys. Man does not live by bread alone, but I guess he won't eat at all with his head in the sand. huh
