How long does a single negative on your credit report stay there?

I had a mortgage company report me 30 days late in January 2019.  How long does that one bad mark remain? 7 years? 10 years?

A 30 Day missed payment is on there for 7 years. But it starts to lose its importance as it fade further in the past.

It remains for 7 years.  Although the score penalty lessens as time passes, you won't get all your points back until it's completely gone from your reports.  If you've otherwise had a stellar payment history with them, it might be worth politely asking for a one time courtesy goodwill deletion.
