How long does it take for a late payment not to matter?

Last year I lost my job.  I was lucky because I had protection on my First Premier Credit Card that was to pay my monthly charges.  The problem is for two months they did not pay.  Now six months later, I am working and trying to clear up my credit report.  The credit card account is still open with a small balance.  But my credit report has me at 60 days late at that time period.  I tried to get it removed but the stupid customer service lady keeps saying that it is accurate-they did not receive a payment for those two months.  Nothing I can do will make them remove it. I disputed it 3 times with no luck.  My credit is not the best overall because I had two bankrupcys in the early 2000's.  But besides those bankrupcys, that late charge is the only bad thing left.  Will this late payment be a thorn in my side if I decide to buy a new home in about a year?  Or should I stop worrying about it and keep concentrating on future (on time) payments.  My credit score is 551 and I would like to have it improve to 650 by next year.

If you bought the credit protection from them, I would ask to speak to a supervisor in charge and explain the situation. Never deal with the tier one CSR on an issue like this.

I did ask to speak to a supervisor and the lady said she was a senior credit rep.  Also she said that the company that insured my card was a third party company with a similar name.

Something is wrong here. First Premier should remove the late payments. People pay good money for credit protection due to issues just like yours. I would try to go higher then the lady you spoke with> I would not let this go until your account is corrected. I would also contact the insurance company and ask them if they can do anything to assist you with this issue.

Don't give up and take it.  Find the name and address/phone number of the CEO and call him.  Explain the situation and tell him you need this cleared up.  Be firm but polite.

Keep us posted.

Re: How long does it take for a late payment not to matter?

I contacted the CC insurance company and they are sending me out some papers to sign.  Apparently they said they tried to contact me because I had to renew the claim.  They will back date the payments to the date of when they should have originally paid.  The question is will the CC company take off those past dues or not.  I will definitely talk to a superior once those papers are in.  I will keep everyone interested tuned to the situation.

Update.  This is partially good news.  After turning in my papers (as stated above) the insurance went back and paid for all of those months.  But FirstPremierBankcard did not want to recognize them as paid.  They said they reported to the bureau as they seen at the time and I should have turned in the paperwork back when they requested it.  After much calling and cussing I calmed down and decided that this was not the way to accomplish anything.  I contacted the BBB, the CEO of FPB did a PFB and called customer service daily.  Today I received an email that they are deleting all late pays off of my credit report except one.  I had late pays from May2006-Dec2006.  The one that will be left will be MAy 2006.  Since one is left, will this deletion have any affect on my score.  All of the other lates on my credit report are much older than May 2006.
