How long is a collection considered a new collection?

I have read that after 2 years its not as damaging to your score but mines just went over 2 yrs old and I'm still getting the message that I have a new collection. Any thoughts?

Ok that makes sense then.   Depending on when and how CA is reporting, you should see a change next month.

Always a happy moment!

That's the thing though OP, a collection is a collection.  Even if paid they don't get too much better as they age.  Best to keep sending GWs in hopes of removal.

I'm gonna do some work when I go on vacation next week. need to clear 3 paid collections, 2 will drop in late 08.will look for some good GW templates.

Collections may age but they still stop you from getting certain types of credit.

Hi, liz, welcome to the forums. Look up at the top of this board, and you'll see some thread titles. Click on Credit Scoring 101 (get comfortable first! ) and read through that, and then click on Frequently Requested Threads. That's a collection of oldies-but-goodies, and it includes sample GW letters.

But please read Credit Scoring 101 first, so you know what to send to whom and when.
