When I applied for a Discover Plat my EX cr was pulled and I was denied with a FICO score of 721 back in 12/05. They said I lacked revolving card experience. My file was very thin as well at that time. Not sure how many months of good payment history on cc's you will need to be approved. I do know from other forums that their underwriting is a bit more stringent compared to some of the other prime ccc's.

A got a preapproved letter a few months ago and was excited. Applied and declined for not enough credit history. Wasn't really sure how hard it was to get that card. My longest account is only around 10 months old. Yes I am new at this game, but off to a great start. 712 EQ.I'm keeping balances low, not cancelling any accounts, always on time, and am requesting credit line increases every 6 months. The real question is, what is the general rule of thumb for history when applying for discover? I am 21 and plan to buy a house within the next 2-3 years and want to be in top tier credit by then, so the sooner I get the card the better.
Thank you for being honest and saying it like it is!

I tried when I had less cards than I do now and my credit scores were all in the 700's. I received a letter from Discover stating the number of cards I had were too many. I agreed. My husband applied and he had only 2 cards and their response was he needed more credit history. His history dates back to 1982!!Many people have applied and have been turned down for petty reasons.Good luck!SandyK
