Can a single account be listed as being charged off 17 different times?
I should clarify that I'm NOT asking how many times debt can be resold, or show up on the report. I know that answer. What I'm asking is for a single entry on a report. The account has actually never been bought from the original creditor. It is showing on Equifax.

Please try to avoid posting for a specific topic more than once so we don't have duplicate threads, thx! 😊
+1
@Anonymous I've merged/removed your duplicate thread. Please avoid cross-posting; it's confusing to follow and is against the guidelines here.

Thank you for the welcome!
I'm worried that it is, in fact, counting as more than one charge off. I'll explain - I just got my updated 3 CB report (bought from Experian) Two CB are listing it as closed (Dec. 2013.) Yet there are 2 (120 days) late pays in 2014 and then on-time payments for the next 21 months. THEN the negative mark (charge off mark) is marked every month for the following 15 months.
The true last delinquency date was august 2013
How would I check to verify that it is only being counted as one charge off per CB?
I wasn't sure which thread to post it in. What do I do when I want to post something that is categorically correct for more than one category?
OH! okay. is it possible for me to merge my threads? if its both categorically correct for more than one?
NO never! The last delinquency date was August 2013. They closed the account in December 2013. I've never paid it since and they've never resold the debt either. I've read the book Credit Secrets (if you're not familiar with it, it lays out a DIY approach to repairing your own credit by using the laws already in place to make the CB's and CA and CL's follow the laws to a T and what to do when they don't follow them.)so you don't have to explain your statements after you tell me something. I'll understand what you're talking about 90% of the time. Of course, I don't know everything (like this particular issue of whether or not a charge off can even occur more than once for a single account.
and I would never confirm just volunteer this information to the CB's! The burden of proof is on them. If they don't know then they didn't follow the law. I can't remember exactly off the top of my head but its something like they must report the date of the last delinquency within 90 days of the initial report to CB. but I might be confusing that with when the debt is resold... they have 90 days to get that info or else it is assumed based on other things.... It's something like that. I'm just saying that the bottom line - the burden of proof is on them and reported info must be accurate. BUT I'm definitely going to dispute with the CB because they are listing the wrong last payment date. and they are listing seriously inaccurate payment history. Kohls closed the account in Dec 2009 yet they didn't stop updating the account until 2017. There are several on-time payments and charge offs after the account was closed. Which was impossible and illegal to do and illegal for the CB to report it.
I just wanted to know if the account was 17 times more negatively affecting my report (because of the 17 charge offs.) versus the negative affect of an account being charged off just once. Or if it was even possible. This is the area that I lack knowledge on big time.
wow sorry for such a long response. I didn't re-read it before I post it.
I wanted to add that I don't use any other websites other than the actual CB sites themselves because they cant be used in court should I sue any CB or CA. I do use credit karma and some others for personal reasons like ease of use but I ALWAYS make sure that the reports match the ones listed on the actual CB websites though if I'm disputing anything. I also update my report same day as I write the dispute letter.
