How should I dispute this?

My husband has a cable collection that finally came to us. We knew nothing about it, because for some reason it was going to an address I had 7 years ago. My DH has never lived there, and we really are unsure of whether or not this debt is even valid. I would DV, but we want to just get this off our report as quickly as possible. Can I dispute through the CRAs and how should I dispute it?

If you dispute through the CRA, then the CA has the right to ask you for information.

What is DOFD? DOLA? SOL?

If it is a small bill and you aren't worried about getting sued, then send DV.

If they validate, then send PFD.

Re: How should I dispute this?

I'm not sure how old it is.  I think it may be from a 6 year old cable bill he had, but the numbers aren't adding up.  Also its the wrong address.  (It's an address I lived at a year before we lived together.  He didn't even have cable at that point.  I think if its his account it was opened after we moved.)  The bill is for a few hundred dollars.  I'll have to check again, but I think it's around $350.

I guess I'll be patient and DV.  It's got to be past SOL.  We really want to move and this is a pain.  We never even received anything in writing from them because of the wrong address until about a year ago.  The postman happened to recognize his name and we now live in the same complex.  If we DV, won't it be sent to the wrong address again?  Or worse, will they change the address to make it look like they were never wrong?

You can find SOL here -

Not if you put your current address on your letter. Is his current address on his CR? Have they pulled his CR?

Keep all letters from them with wrong address.

Call the OC(don't mention CA) and ask about this bill. Get dates, etc.
