How to dispute date of delinquency?

Hubby has a charged off account from Barclays that they have set to fall off in April 2017.  They have it reported that the account went delinquent April 2010.  There has been no payment of activity on this account since November 2009, which is when it went delinquent.  We of course want it to fall off this November instead of next April!  How do we dispute this without waking a sleeping bear?  Thank you!

Re: How to dispute date of delinquency?

Do you have billing statements showing when it first became delinquent, and that it thereafter remained delinquent until it was charged-off?

If so, include that documentation as support for your dispute of accuracy of the reported DOFD.

Be sure, however, that you have a statement showing it became delinquent earlier.

The simple fact that there were not payments on the account from 11/2009 does not establish that as the DOFD absent a statement showing that the payment due at that time was delinquent.

Is the debt also outside of the SOL for your state?
