When looking at your credit report let's say from freecreditreport.com or myFico.com how can you distinguish between HP's or SP's? When pulling an Equifax report it clearly states that 'These inquiries do affect your credit score' or 'These inquiries do not affect your credit score' however the other CRA do not give this distinction on their reports... any idea how to tell?
If the CR you obtain does not provide the code for the permiisible purpose for the inquiry, try ordering your free annual report fron annualcreditreport.com, whiich usually provides the associated codes. That site is the gov sanctioned site for providing your free annual report, and thus is usually more comprehensive than commerical credit reports.
If you cannot ge the coding, then one way to tell is to obtain a credit report that was pulled by another.
The definiation of a so-called soft pull is that it is not shown on credit reports avalialble to others.
When you pull your own report, they can show.
If it shows in any credit report that was obtained by anyone other than you, it was coded as a hard pull.

When you say by others does that include myFico or Freecreditreport.com etc... Other meaning not not directly from the credit agency or other meaning not pulled by me (whether directly from the CRA or from a 3rd party like myFico)?
When you sign up for a credit monitoring service, you provide them authority to pull your report on your behalf.
It is thus not considered an inquiry by another, and is coded as soft.
