How to handle a tax lien on cr?

It is for our state taxes from 2 years ago.  We mailed in the forms and had forgotten to put in the check.  We just found this out.  It has been paid, but it is on one of our reports.  Is there anything to do about it or are we stuck with it for the next 7 years?

Unfortunatly the same thing happened to me as well. I did some research and found out its stuck there for 7 years. One thing you can do it file a consumer statement regarding the lien and explain your issue. The main thing is thats its paid and will eventually fall off. I have noticed since the two years its been on there that its having a lessened effect on the fico score.

Re: How to handle a tax lien on cr?

I just had a federal lien taken off my report this month. This was from my divorce years ago. It was my ex husbands business but since we filed a joint return it fell back on me too.  It has been paid in full for years but still remained on my TU report as still owed.  All I did was dispute it with TU and two weeks later they completely removed it from my report. All I had ask was they list it as PIF but they went ahead and deleted it completley which made me so happy. So yes, it is possible to get it deleted.

Your state may have a longer or shorter reporting time than 7 years.

Excuse me for going OT (as I so often do), but didn't you notice that the check never cleared? You do balance your checkbook, right???

My state was so proud to roll out online payment for property taxes.  I paid mine late at night, but I accidently transposed my account number.  So I entered a non-existent or someone else's account number.  The state credited me with payment of the tax in full.  I noticed that the check didn't clear my account.  I called and had to beg them to delete the payment and rebill me.  They thought I was crazy because I was arguing that I DIDN'T pay my taxes.  I knew if I didn't, some day they would catch up to the mistake and I would be hit with interest, penalties, and a big fat lien on my house.  Smiley Sad

This is for my state taxes not federal so we thought that it was just taking a long time to process.  Honestly we knew that the money was there and just forgot about it.  My mistake.  One I will not make again.

Yeah, some (most? all?) states are not known for their efficiency.
