My understanding...when buying a 1 time report...that report exists for viewing for 30 days...and is only updated at time of purchase.  Same goes with the free annual report.  But...if you dispute with EQ and EX...when the dispute is completed, you can access your report via your confirmation number for 30 days..and that report is updated everytime you view it.  TU is different I think...you can view a copy of your CR once the dispute is complete, but it is only updated once.   I see no issues ethically by taking advantage of a free 30 day updated CR after the fact that you have disputed something...as for disputing something just for the sake of gaining access...well opinions vary.

Yes, opinions may vary, however, it is a violation of the TOS of the forums.  And everyone has to abide by the TOS.

I understand that...I'm not advocating, or even suggesting that anybody do that.  I was just trying to contribute information without condemning..who am I to tell someone something isn't ethical, when in fact it's not even illegal?  You and I may see it as unethical or just downright stupid, but our opinion isn't valid if it doesn't pertain to something actually occuring on this forum.  You, as a moderator, have a responsibility to uphold and to make sure others abide by the TOS of this forum, and I completely respect that.  Whatever this forum deems unethical should not be discussed on this forum...but that's about the extent of it.   That is my 2 cents...i'm not here to stir up anything, just defending my post... and I mean no disrespect to you Guiness...you have offered some good advice to me since i've been here and I appreciate that.  I hope there's no hard feeling.  If there is anything in this post that you believe is out of line...feel free to delete.

Re: How to keep getting the newest credit report without paying

i just kinda curious why people said it is unethical to view something that it is supposed to be yours for free. I mean, this is like checking your driving records (no fee) or checking your credit card statement (no fee). the ssn was given to us for use and we were supposed to safeguard it. By correcting the the mistakes and disputing the error, we are to do what we suppose to do.

in some time, the cra chose to charge us some cash when we decided to see the credit report. come on, this is like "i haven taken your freedom of speech and before you say a word in this word, please pay".

I have no clue why people said it is wrong and unethical when somehting is ours.

You're certainly free to have your opinion but the myFICO Forums TOS states that this, among other things, is prohibited:

Discussion of illegal or unethical activities or providing links to other websites containing such information;

What is or isn't ethical does matter regardless of whether it actually occurs on this forum or not according to the text above.

Opinions may vary but they're irrelevant.  What are relevant are the TOS's of the CRA's.  They all have a statement similar to the following that one has to agree to in the dispute process:

I understand obtaining a credit report under false pretenses is a federal crime punishable by incarceration and/or monetary penalties.
If you don't have a valid dispute and you just want to view your credit report then you're doing so under false pretenses.

Everyone wants free stuff. That doesn't mean that the stuff in question is free. CRA's charge for credit reports aside from the annual report which is free. While one can certainly disagree and hold the opinion that credit reports should be free that doesn't change reality.  I actually share the opinion that credit reports should be free but it's still unethical to mispresent one's situation in order to obtain a free credit report.
