How to remove 1993 lien report.

I believe Experian should remove a 1993 lien that's been satisfied from my credit report.  I cannot use the online dispute form to request this, and there's been no response to a letter I sent two months ago.  Do I have any recourse or appeal procedure?  Am I correct it should be removed since it's more than seven years old?  The facts: a 1993 IRS tax lien was supposedly sent to me sometime during a period I was moving from apartment to apartment in DC.  When I obtained an Experian credit report for the first time while living in Washington state in 2005 and saw the public record of the lien (sent to an address I had stayed at for only a short time before leaving Washington DC) I resolved it and sent the Release to Experian.  That was 2005.  Today, Experian's credit report still shows the lien.

IRS tax liens stay on your report for 7 years from the date they are paid or forever if not paid.

Well, if you paid it in 2005 it should say paid on your CR. If not then I'd fight to have that corrected. Mines are state tax liens from 2001, I just paid them, but one did drop off before the payment, but one will stay until later this year per EXP. Now that's not to say that EQ and TU won't keep them on longer. But I do know the older they are the better, and having it say paid/released is better than having it sit saying unpaid etc. And from all that I've read/been told they can stay on up to 7-10 yrs from the time paid.

I have seen some members on here have success with getting them off their reports, hopefully one of them will reply. If not be sure to do a search on Tax Lien removals. Good Luck.

IRS liens are different than state tax liens. IRS leans are 7 years from the paid date or forever if unpaid.

Yes, they're different in that one is state and one is the federal (IRS). But they're all 7 years for ANY kind of tax lien from the time paid. They do not specify from IRS to state.

Tax Liens – City, county, state and federal tax liens are especially harmful and can remain on your credit report indefinitely. Once the lien is paid the record will remain on your credit report for 7 years from the payment date.

Re: How to remove 1993 lien report.

True enough BUT I have seen many people get a state lien off their CR before the 7 years. Not so with an IRS lien. It sux but I have another 4 years before mine goes away Smiley Sad

Re: How to remove 1993 lien report.

I have a 1999 CA tax lien that has been removed from 2 of the 3 agencies.  It was resolved by a

"Notice of tax lien relief-issued in error".  How do I get it removed?  I need to finance 2 college educations and I need to increase my fico into the top zone.

This is not correct.  TC got it wrong.  Each state has its own laws about when its tax liens come off.  The 7 years applies to paid Federal tax liens only because it is set forth in Federal legislation.
