How to remove a delinquent report from a closed credit card?

I had a delinquent payment report on my GAP credit card, which I have paid and since closed the credit card. But the delinquent report is hurting my score and I wanted to check if I can call back GAP credit card services and request them to remove the delinquent report?

You can certainly ask anyone anything (except asking your girlfriend to go on a diet, in which case you'll be sleeping on the couch for a year).  The overwhelmingly likelihood, however, is that they will say no.

The late payment will stay on your reports for seven years after it occured.  Paying the balance in full is commendable but only helps you avoid further lates.

Actually, closing the account gave you a little less leverage than you'd have if the account was still open.  A "good will letter" has the best chance of being answered with a Yes when you can show that since that one mistake you have been a good customer with that CC issuer, never being late, using the card occasionally, etc.
