I Apologize

I have been reprimanded for bringing up "India" and the fact that the Transunion calls are being routed to India. I fail to see how anyone could possibly be wounded by this.....but if I have offended anyone then please accept my apology. This was not my intent and I completely agree with this policy. But this is reality.

I have done alot of traveling and I have absolutely nothing against anyone....anywhere. But I really don't think my opinion is out of line......after all we're talking about the credit bureau here. It's outrageous to farm our personal records to any country abroad! They are not governed by the same laws and protection that we have in the United States and I think it's only fair to any US citizen that we are able to discuss our personal issues with someone we can understand!

Are we really back in Judge Ito's courtroom here? I mean hello......are we talking about murder or are we talking about your race? Big difference!

The way I see it, you have nothing to apologize about.  People who have "thin skin" need to butch up and grow up.  Smiley Mad

Re: I Apologize

Tagga, I was the one who removed your post. Please click on the orangish, envelope-looking link towards the top right-corner of this page. You haven't read the PM yet.

Great topic, IMO. Why should overseas call centers handle our personal information? Why not bring everyone stateside? I'm sure most of you reading this would have no problem paying a higher price for credit products in exchange for good-ole local slang and a friendly voice to relate to. I would. However, talking about a specific ethnicity, group, culture, country, etc. in a negative light isn't allowed per the TOS of this site. What's true of the parts is not true of the whole.

Re: I Apologize

We have a call center here in Arizona that is staffed by prisoners at a state penitentiary.  How 'bout that?  You don't necessarily know when you are talking to an inmate.  My problem with most phone center staff is that they do not speak to your questions, they read off a script.  If you reach an impass in communication, it is difficult to get a straight answer unless by chance you happen to ask an FAQ.

Re: I Apologize

If you guys are upset about your credit reports going overseas, how about your medical records?  I am a medical transcriptionist who has seen her paycheck go DOWN by 50% in the last 8 years because people in other countries will do it for less, much, much less.  All your medical records go to other countries who do not have HIPPA laws and they have your complete name, address, phone number, SS # and all your ailments.  We need to bring our records home.

Re: I Apologize

What I don't understand is, how is talking about a call center in some country being useless apply to the whole of the people of that country. I think this is a bit overboard with with political correctness. When the mayor says black gang or Hispanic gang or skin head gang, its not referring to all black people, all Hispanics and all white people, its just referring to that group and calling it what it actually is. I think this is just silly and to make it part of a TOS is just lame. But hey my two cents, no need to agree or get mad, just saying.

Re: I Apologize

The same point could have been made originally by saying "overseas call centers" instead of "Indian call centers." The main point is that so many banks put so little emphasis on customer service that they shop it out to the cheapest bidder (including penitentiaries) and then tie the CSR's hands to where they really can't do customer service.

I don't know precisely how the prohibition against citing specific countries arose, but I would note that we have active members here from many countries, including India, the Philippines, and other countries that host overseas call centers. I've lived in a multicultural city, and to me, it's just common politeness.

I did read the original post, and the phrase "some turkey in India" was over the top, IMO.

Again, I do appreciate the frustrations involved. We just ask people not to single out specific countries/ ethnicities/ etc. The word "overseas" sums it all up pretty effectively.

Re: I Apologize

When I first joined the myFICO community, I got into an exchange with another member about his characterization of overseas customer service centers.  I'm completely politically incorrect, but that user got under my skin because he basically said that the people in the country in question - the Philippines, I believe - were inherently corrupt.  In my opinion, that definitely crossed the line.

Nevertheless, it is certainly understandable and forgivable to get upset at lousy customer service, but the countries across the ponds do not have a monopoly on that.  And I often snicker about the feeble attempts at small talk from the overseas CSRs. Smiley Very Happy

Re: I Apologize

Tagga-

For what it is worth, I agree with you. No need to apologize.

I work with many Indians and my wife's uncle and cousin's are Indian. One cousin graduated from Marquette University last week and the other is attending Northwestern. They are extremely bright and they haven't achieved their level of success by wasting time being offended by anyone--whether comments had malicious intent or not.

I have seen the PC movement become overzealous in the last 25 years. We all have the ability to CHOOSE what we are offended by.

I choose to look at it from this perspective:

We have a choice, I choose not to be outraged or offended by the opinion's of others.

Life is too short for that petty silliness, if you discovered you had stage-4 cancer and less than 4 months to live;

would you sit around and thinking of how the words, thoughts, and opinions of others offend you???????

I wouldn't waste my time, treat every day as if it were your last. If others choose to be hypersensitive, let it be THEIR burden to bear.

Thanks for offering the apology to those and their delicate sensibilities you have offended. I find it superfluous.
