I'm just about ready to give up!

Managing your credit is just too stressful.

Up until this month my EQ score was my lowest score, mainly due to some incorrect information, but my TU and EX scores were my better scores and somewhat similar.  Well the tide has definately turned.  Now my EQ score is my highest score after getting the incorrect information resolved but my EX and TU scores have fallen.  I thought I understood this game but obviously I don't.

Last month I paid off my Cap One card so that the statement balance would report zero while letting my store card report a UTI of 24%.  I saw a minor ding for the 24% but it wasn't much.  Well this month, I knew it would be the first time that my AMEX would report my account so I allowed a balance to report on my Cap One card, at 30% UTI.  It was a little higher than I wanted but I was traveling and decided to use my credit card as opposed to my debit card.  I took roughly a 12-15 point hit on all scores but I expected it so, fair enough.  What I didn't expect was a drop from paying off my store card and letting it report $0 this month.  I received a 16 point drop on EX Smiley Frustrated  My AMEX account reported with a $0 balance as well as I made sure to pay it in full before the statement cut, if you are wondering.  So that is only one card that is reporting a balance for this month.  On top of that my TU score dropped again for a reason that I cannot determine.  I know I called TU and asked them to remove all the remarks from my report and asked if they could go ahead and remove a charge off that was set to fall off in Nov.  I think that was a big mistake because it seems that he issued a dispute instead.  Smiley Frustrated

My only continued gripe with EQ is how they are reporting an AU account.  I went through hell and high water to get them to add the AU account after it was removed and blocked from my account but they did not list it as a credit card account so I do not benefit from the high credit limit which I use to also cushion my UTI.

Guys I am beyond frustrated.  I really feel like giving up and just letting things happen however they happen.  It is too stressful and I am tired of playing the game.  I can understand why some people hire others to handle this.  I have a somewhat demanding and analytical job and although it's 8-5 and M-F, I don't want to spend my free time worrying and analyzing over this.

If it is causing you stress stop worrying about it.  Unless you need to buy a house in the next couple of months it really doesn't matter.pay your bills on time and don't max out your cards and check back in 6 months it is I sure to improve.

I agree with you and I will once I refinance my car which I was waiting to do after my next credit report from MYFICO just to make sure I am good to go.  Luckily, the banks I will apply for refinance with use EQ which is my strongest score ATM.  I want to try for a Lowes card in November to do some work aroud the house so I am still somewhat worried about my TU score.

Re: I'm just about ready to give up!

I can totally relate to your frustration. But somehow understand that scores are a snapshot of our credit profiles in time, but not necessarily the entire picture. A month or so ago, I too kept getting frustrated about my score decreasing when I thought it should be going higher. BUT, remember this, if you have say, two or three accounts, you should let one report at the least 10% or lower, of your total available limit. So say your overall available credit limit was 10K. Then you can allow a balance of 1,000 to report from the account that has the biggest credit limit. Having two accounts with more balances regardless how small they are tend to impact your scores as well. Best way to keep your scores from dipping is to follow that rule with a single digit utilization and with only one card reporting a balance, you should see them going back up in no time, so don't beat yourself up over it. I know I did, and may still do, but don't drive yourself crazy monitoring your files unless you have an important application that you are considering in the not so distant future.

Unfortunately if we want to reap the benefits of having good credit, then we do have to do what it takes to maintain it.

If it's taking a toll on you then let things happen the way they happen. Just don't make it worse like the above poster said. Don't max anything out and don't get any baddies.

Do you have any baddies? If not just carry on. Try not to let anything report more than 18%.

Thanks for your response.  I did only allow one card out of 3 report a balance.  I knew that I would take a hit on the 30% UTI on that one card ( I normally would only let it report 9% or under but like I said I was traveling and felt more comfortable using my CC) so I took that one on the chin but I also got got dinged for paying off the balance on the one card I let report a balance last month.  Now that is what topped it off and caused this ranting post. LOL  I just need to vent.  It's either that or close my office door and let out a bunch of expletives. Smiley Mad Smiley LOL

Yes, I have baddies. Smiley Sad  I'm in the rebuilidng stage and as I mentioned in the OP, I requested an early exclusion from TU on a charge off that was set to drop off in November.  Although I specifcally said that I did not want to dispute it but just wanted to know if they could remove it early, I think the man did just that... a dispute. Smiley Frustrated

If you can. Set 1 or 2 hours a week aside and spend time on your rebuilding. Keep your chin up, it will all payoff soon.

Yes that will happen, if you paid off the balance that you let report the previous month and paid it off to change to a new card reporting a balance, it will definitely take a few points off your scores. But you know, scores are just one factor in a persons credit profile. What I do is that, I pick out the card with the biggest CL and that's the account that I leave a small balance to report, between 4-6%, sometimes my overall UT would be 0% but would still see a 3-6 point increase. I'm sure those scores will be back up in no time. I am actually waiting for my scores to drop in the next month or so when the new AMEX account gets reported and brings my AAoA again. But I am gardening (or trying my best to LOL!) till hopefully 2019 or until a pre-approved offer from Chase comes along. Happy Friday!
