A month or so ago, I too kept getting frustrated about my score decreasing when I thought it should be going higher. BUT, remember this, if you have say, two or three accounts, you should let one report at the least 10% or lower, of your total available limit. So say your overall available credit limit was 10K. Then you can allow a balance of 1,000 to report from the account that has the biggest credit limit. Having two accounts with more balances regardless how small they are tend to impact your scores as well. Best way to keep your scores from dipping is to follow that rule with a single digit utilization and with only one card reporting a balance, you should see them going back up in no time, so don't beat yourself up over it. I know I did, and may still do, but don't drive yourself crazy monitoring your files unless you have an important application that you are considering in the not so distant future.
Thanks for your response. I did only allow one card out of 3 report a balance. I knew that I would take a hit on the 30% UTI ( I normally would only let it report 9% or under but like I said I was traveling and felt more comfortable using my CC) so I took that one on the chin but I also got got dinged for paying off the balance on the one card I let report a balance last month. Now that is what topped it off and caused this ranting post. LOL I just need to vent. It's either that or close my office door and let out a bunch of expletives.

Yes that will happen, if you paid off the balance that you let report the previous month and paid it off to change to a new card reporting a balance, it will definitely take a few points off your scores. But you know, scores are just one factor in a persons credit profile. What I do is that, I pick out the card with the biggest CL and that's the account that I leave a small balance to report, between 4-6%, sometimes my overall UT would be 0% but would still see a 3-6 point increase. I'm sure those scores will be back up in no time. I am actually waiting for my scores to drop in the next month or so when the new AMEX account gets reported and brings my AAoA again. But I am gardening (or trying my best to LOL!) till hopefully 2019 or until a pre-approved offer from Chase comes along. Happy Friday!
Your posts make me feel so much better. Hopefully your score drop won't be so bad and I'm sending willpower your way so you can find a way to stay in the garden. LOL I hear so much about Chase and their 5/24 and I worry but then I'm like...why do I have to have a Chase card? LOL sometimes this board does more harm than good. LOL I hope you get the pre-approval you are looking for. I'm thinking about selling my current home in a few years and buying a new one so I am also trying to prepare for that. I'm just a girl with big dreams. Here's to a happy Friday and a glorious weekend. ![]()
