You could get a copy of your b/c from the state; and then go get your SS card, and then get your id card. My wife had to do it 3 years ago, it was a nightmare. The state we live in requires a SSN to get a drivers license.
No problem

Is it just that you don't have the card (which can indeed be unnecessary) or do you not know your SSN? If the latter, you really do need it for many things, any employment that is not under the table, paying taxes, getting a passport.

I lost it when I moved and can not get a new one without an id.
Required documentation and alternatives are offered on the Social Security site. You'll need your SSN for a number of things in life (including a debit card) so you might as well get it sorted out. In the meantime prepaid is your best bet.

Always consider the source. ID's are must these days and not just for smokers and drinkers.
