I was able to correct my Equifax Report. How long

I was able to have an Inquiry deleted from my Equifax Report.  How long will it take to get off my report and how long will it take to help my credit score once it is removed?   Thanks!

Soft or hard inquiry.  That would be great if you ask someone to do that and they do it for you.  When we applied for the refi w/Countrywide Mortgage, they had a program where you can get approved in 10 mins!  We did not sign any forms to do the refi.  That to me would have been a soft inquiry, but I guess not.  Whether it is hard or soft, and you are simply going through a refi., it should not show up on your credit report.  We have purchased 5 homes.  This was the first 'inquiry' on our credit report.  In the past we used mortgage brokers, and this time we did not!  Strange, but I think this is why it's so important to check your credit reports, and fight anything that may show up, especially inquiries if you are applying for a mortgage or refinancing.  Of course, maybe times have changed, but at least it's off of our report now.  I just checked it and  yes, it's gone!  That was quick.

I don't think you will see much of a change from having one inquiry removed, maybe 2 or 3 points, but then again I know how exciting 2 or 3 points can be!!!

I don't know how long it will take to be removed, but your score change, if any, should be immediate upon removal.

Re: I was able to correct my Equifax Report. How long

When I checked my credit report about one month ago, I noticed an "inquiry" that was the only negative spot on my report.  I thought that was strange, because I knew I had not applied for any credit cards.  When it showed the name of the Company, I did not recognize it at all, but the Date when the inquiry was placed, was the same month we refi our home to a lower interest rate, so I called our Mortgage Company and they said they used that company to do our credit check, etc.
I knew it was a fact that when you apply for a mortgage or refi, you are not to get a negative mark on your credit report, especially when you are looking for a lower rate.  We only went to our mortgage company that already had our mortgage, so it wasn't like we used a broker, where they go to many different companies to get the best rate.  Even if you do that, it should not put a negative on your reports, so always fight those.  I simply wrote to Equifax on their website where you can report anything to them, but then you also have to send a letter to them, so I brought it to their attention.  I told them our Mortgage Company uses them, etc.  My reply came today and it stated it is to be deleted from our report, so I was successful!!

Actually, this is incorrect. It is up to the lender to decide whether to do a hard or soft inquiry for a re-fi, even if they are your existing lender. It is not "a fact" that they shouldn't do a hard; it's just company policy.

So, essentially, you got lucky. The more proper thing to do would have been to ask the lender to recode it as a soft.

An inquiry isn't a negative. It's just an inq.
