Identity Theft Prevention

Identity theft is even more furtehr onn the rise. It used to be that ten million consumers are affected each year. Today that number is closer to thirty million victims each year. So pulling a credit report once a motnh or year is not sufficient. You should sign up for credit monitoring and pull a new report at least one time per week. Also check your online banking or go into your bank each week. When sending mail go to the post office lobby. Use a PO Box for recieving mail if you are evr in doubt. Have your documents and important papers locked at the bank's safe deposit box and the fees are very small. At your house or apartment make sure the permises are locked, including the garage door. Thieves would not only walk in but would steal your identity in the process.

This may seem time consuming but once you become a victim of identity ntheft it can take several hours (20-100's) and several hundred's to the thousand's of dollars to clear your good name.

I recently had an unauthorized inquiry on my credit report from an auto insurance company. So after getting the run around from the buciness I called the Attorney General's offcie who referred me to the Dept. of Fiancial Services. So the Sate of Florida definately got the auto insurances attention. Their legal dept. called me, apologized, and will be removing the inquiry. So what I had said in the above parapraph is very important.

Re: Identity Theft Prevention

Did they re-code the INQ as a soft INQ, or did they delete it altogether?

If they re-coded as a soft INQ, and if you have any sort of paper trail on this, go chat with a lawyer. It's an unauthorized INQ. You might try an ITS letter demanding a $1K out of court settlement in order for them to avoid having to pay your lawyer's fees.
