Identity theft help

Hello all! Long time lurker here,
So I've been dealing with identity theft recently and just have a few questions on the issue at hand.

I have an account (reported in CA when I live in NY) that was fraudulently opened on 4/16 and although they have yet to miss a payment (or at least that is what the CRA say).

I sent the 3 major CRA a copy of my local PD report and a FTC identity theft report along with 2 forms of ID and a copy of the FCRA. They all received this on 12/14 and I just today received notification via email that TU has conducted an investigation and deleted the account.

Does anyone know how to confirm that the other two CRA are working on this issue to have it deleted from my credit report?. On my CCT equifax shows it as "disputing - investigation in progress" but Experian does not show anything on the memo section?. Does this mean they aren't investigating it?.

Re: Identity theft help

Call each of the CRA and confirm that they received the documentation. I believe each CRA have their own Fraud department. However, I would also suggest freezing your credit reports ASAP so no further applications can be fraudulently made under your name. Lastly, contact the business that extended the credit and let them know it is not you who opened the account (send all documentation certified mail).

Re: Identity theft help

I tried calling Experian fraud department earlier but due to holiday (yay!) they don't work till Monday, I've contacted all three CRA and froze them immedietly when I had seen the account,

Also I contacted the business but due to the fact I couldn't answer the security word and did not have access to the "number on file" they just gave me their fraud department address to send any paperwork to, (which I did).

Re: Identity theft help

Have you ordered a CR directly from their online website? It *might* show any notes on the account if you don't want to wait until Monday when they open. I know when an item is in dispute, there are notes on the account showing it is being verified or what not. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but good news is, that the freeze is in place which should stop the bleeding - so to speak - until Monday. Sucks to have this happening around the holidays. Best of luck to you in resolving this.

Re: Identity theft help

I have not ordered it directly from there, I suppose I'll just wait to call on Monday to confirm that they received my paperwork and are working on it Smiley Happy! And you've helped! Thank you so much and have a good holiday!
