MV, you nailed it! When I started reading these forums, I started from the oldest posts first. Not that long ago, TNWM's posts started at grumpy and zoomed to psychotic! And now, here he is a greybeard moderator, showing his love for FICO scores. Love it.

No, but I have read about Lithium (now there is a double meaning for you) and how it effects regular posters  Smiley Very Happy
The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid

Re: In Desparate Need of Advice

greenpea,

you are obviously on the right track. as far as the loan goes, you may not be able to get it with the scores you have. if you CAN get it, it might not be a bad idea as long as the interest is lower than what you're already paying. one thing I want to stress though. if you do go the way of a consolidation loan, DON'T close the accounts after they're paid off. this will HURT your score. just put the cards in the sock drawer and pay down that loan. this will help you keep your utilization down and keep your credit history moving. once you get a good job you should use each card for a teeny tiny purchase every couple months to keep them active and continue building positive history. I would also suggest sending GW letters to the ones that had late payments and asking if the lates could be erased because you want to continue being a good customer. you're doing great and you're obviously thinking alot about this situation so you're going to be ok.

Re: In Desparate Need of Advice

absolutely! I started by voraciously reading this forum. then i sent DV letters to 3 CA's while disputing them with CRA's at the same time. got 2 collections deleted. they were newer accounts that weren't reporting right, and rather than validate the debt, the agency chose to remove the entries!

I'm just getting started and have a LOT more work to do, but these things work so if you find yourself in a situation to use them, don't hesitate.

I will be posting periodic updates here of my progress so hopefully in a few weeks i'll see another little jump and will post it on here.
