In deep w/ Chexsystems!

So after a tough 2010-2011 year, losing my full-time job and going on unemployment, I ended up in Chexsystems twice. My credit took a plunge as well. Since I found full-time employment I've been on the upswing financially and in the last 6 months rebuilding help bring my fico score up over 100 points.
Today I have the problem of getting a bank account, I tried a few credit unions and 2nd chance accounts and been repeatedly denied. I currently bank with Fidelity and Armed Forces Bank, but looking to get in with a credit union. Does anybody know of a credit union that will except anybody? I still owe a couple of banks. I already did DV process with chexsystems as well. I need a credit union and can't seem to get any anywhere! Any help would be appreciated!

Re: In deep w/ Chexsystems!

I'd suggest doing a Google search, like this:

   non chexsystems credit unions

Sometimes credit unions will offer a "second chance" type of checking account.

Also, if you post your city/state, someone may have additional ideas to offer.

Since Chexsystems isn't a collection agency a DV won't work.

Can you afford to pay the banks?  Or settle?  If you can they have the power to have the accounts removed.

And I speak from experience.  Paid an account that had been overdrawn and sent to Chexsystem.  Asked the bank if they could have it removed.  I paid them a $25 fee and the account was removed within 48 hours.

Are you eligible for NFCU?  To the best of my knowledge they do not use Chexsystems.

Re: In deep w/ Chexsystems!

I used to work in the non-profit sector and lost grant funding. I now work full-time as a teacher for a public school district and even tried to get into the school credit union and was turned down.

I did some sort of validation process with chexsystems in the summer, not sure if it was the DV process though. If I paid the banks through settlement it would clean out my savings and I just thought I should wait the 5 years until they fall off. I also tried to apply a credit union that I found on google through non-chexsystems banks and was turned down because I had 2 collection items.

I haven't tried NFCU, I'm still not sure if I qualify; my dad was discharged from the Army in the late 80's and I'm not sure if that would make me eligible.

Re: In deep w/ Chexsystems!

For NFCU he would need to be retired.

How long ago did these go to Chexsystems.  The bank or CU can always say yes, they just use Checxsystems as a tool.  Maybe if you talked to someone, like a manager.

Re: In deep w/ Chexsystems!

Even if it wipes out a good portion of your savings, it might be worth it to try and at least settle the debts. Maybe it won't be as bad for you financially if they accept less than the full balance. Waiting 5 years to get a bank account might cause you a lot of problems over the years just doing basic daily / monthly things.

Re: In deep w/ Chexsystems!

I was able to get an account with PNC a few years agi with marks on my ChexSystems when other banks wouldn't open one. Might try that if they are in your area.
