Re: Inaccurate scoring

Noah_Bodie,

If you are recommending actions that are solely for the purpose of removing accurate credit information to improve one's credit picture, then you are outside guidelines of these forums.

Re: Inaccurate scoring

Barry,

Federal law permits one to request validation of any debt from any collector, whether owed or not. Are you telling me that MyFico usage does not allow one to point out what one's rights are under federal law?

So, for example, recommending that to improve my FICO score I should send debt verification letters to ALL of my creditors, whether I know I owe the debt or not, is recommending that I provide "untrue or misleading information to a credit bureau or lender."

I've read quite a few posts here and don't recall Noah recommending such a thing. In a typical thread, a poster will mention that he has found 2 or 3 or 4 collections on his report, some of which could be duplications. Perhaps an OC and a CA (or two CAs) are reporting the same exact debt. Whether the poster recognizes the debt as legit or not, there is often confusion about whether the poster should send payments to the OC or to CA#1 or to CA#2. It's widely known that some CAs regularly report debts that either do not belong to the consumer or are not actually owned by the reporting CA. Sending a DV letter to a CA serves to clarify ownership of the debt. Without a DV letter, the consumer might blindly pay off CA#1 (who reported the debt on the May CR), and find out later the debt was actually owned by CA#2, who decides to start reporting on the June CR.
