Inquires,,,, please explain

I don't understand. Would you please explain soft pull, from a hard pull. I have not applied for any credit in about a year. I did apply fro a car loan in 12/08 I was denied because of too many inquires, and lack of credit. TU 676 EQ 650 Ex 616 I seem to have alot of inquires on my CR and I have never applied to these people. Can anyone run a check on you without your permission? Alot of them are from mortgage companies, which I have never had a mortgage with . I have not owned a home since 1984.  Can you dispute these entries or is it a waste of time? If anyone has time please explain.

The only place to see soft inquiries is through the CRs pulled directly from the CRAs.

You can see hard inquiries also through these reports and in other reports offered by third-party providers like myFICO, TC, CCT, and many others.

Hard inquiries are basically inquiries for credit like when you apply for a CC, loan, etc. Could also include for services like for a cell phone or cable, satellite TV, etc. And to a lesser extent, you can have hard inquiries for employment, insurance, etc.

Soft inquiries aren't usually requests for credit, but involve account reviews, promotional inquiries, etc. For example, my name is slightly off on TU (says Sr. when I am not) and I always get offers from First Premier, other CCs, mortgage offers, insurance, etc. that list the "Sr." suffix. I can then go back to TU and link the junk mail offer to a soft inquiry. You can also get soft inquiries when you pull your own report. These have zero impact to your score.

Exactly where did you see these inquiries?
