This is probably a stu[id question but here goes anyway....

If I spoke to a CA over the phone about paying a balance, does this authorize them to do a 'hard' pull of my CR?

When I first started cleaning up my credit...I had contacted a CA by phone. In my ignorance, I gave my SSN to the collector when he asked for it. He did a hard pull on TU but luckily it did not last long as most of my TU inquiries have dropped off prematurely.

I have read CAs can and will do a hard pull on your credit report.

NO. Speaking to them on the phone alone does not give them a PP. Assuming you did not authorize them in any way. Even otherwise, I would likely disagree with a 'hard' pull depending upon the situation. Dont ask why. THere are two schools of thought on CA hard pulls and both have good arguments. It would take some judge to resolve that. It shouldn't be like that. But thats the way the system has been exploited.
