I checked my EQ inquiries as part of a dispute of an account, which guess what, it belongs to me even though I never took out an account on the date listed, yeah, that's really a "proven" fact (ok sorry about the sarcasm there those reports aren't NEARLY as accurate as they claim they are for another example they have my employer from 12 years ago listed as current even though I've updated that info).
But I found the bank doing my car loan did a soft pull 12/06/2011, and Cap One apparently softs now and again as well.
Anyone else found other companies that periodically snoop in paranoia that you might max things out and declare BK?

This thread probably goes under "General credit topics" but yes, for me AmEx seems to be the worst offender.

Kind of. I looked at TU and EX a few days ago and both had inquiries from Cap1 and Discover. EX is actually showing a soft from Discover almost once every month for the past 2 years. For what, I don't know. I've never apped with Discover and I'm not an AU on a Discover account either. Cap 1 has soft'ed me quite a few times as well. No accounts or apps with them either.
I also have one from AMEX that says "account review." I think it was for their year-end account summary thing.
Not really creditors but I have a CA called "RJM Aquisitions" softing my TU report every week!

I suspect the softs from Discover and Cap1 are to see if you qualify for pre-approved offers.
