Re: Is Experian the only CRA that gives you your actual FICO score for free?

ExtraCredit is good for when you need to see all 28 scores, it isn't great for actual Credit Monitoring. There are no updates when an account hits a 0 balance, like you get with MyFico.

I prefer Experian for monitoring my credit. I can see daily changes on my EX report and scores to really determine what is causing my score changes. The downside is that I do not get the same granularity of data for TU and EQ, it makes it more difficult to determine how different bureaus react to profile changes. It would be nice to find a service that offered daily TU and EQ updates and actual FICO scores.

If I need all 28 scores it is because I am applying for a mortgage, I will pay for a service (either MyFICO or ExtraCredit) to get those score for that month and the following months if I find there is work that needs done to improve my scores.

@Anonymous, regarding only Experian scores, it is interesting to see how the different credit bureaus respond to the same stimulus.  This month is a good example; I pay all of my cards in full just before the due date and rely on a few pending charges here and there to clear before the statement is cut to avoid All Zero; this time around I must not have had enough stuff pending because all three of my cards reported zero.  I was expecting to see all three credit bureaus whack me pretty hard because of the All Zero thing, and here's what I see for my FICO 8s from my latest round of reports:

  • ------- July --- August - Net Change
  • EQ: - 692 ------ 699 ------ +7
  • EX: - 678 ------ 659 ------ -19
  • TU: - 705 ------ 710 ------ +5

Yeah, color me surprised EQ and TU actually went up.  Go figure.

I categorically refuse to do AZEO!
