Is it worth disputing 2yr old issue?

In April of 2005 I took out an equity line to pay off some bills. One of those happened to be a car loan with Ford Motor Credit. The bank sent the payoff amount to Ford via the regular payment address. Apparently there is a separate address to send the payoff amount, I was not notified of this by Ford. I assume for this reason the regular address did not process the payment. I then had to wait for the check to be returned and then the bank mailed it to the correct address. Because of this delay my credit took a 30days past due hit. During that time I never really bothered to check up on my credit. I am not actively working to build excellent credit for myself and my wife. Issues: 1 - Equifax reports past due at 30 days. 2 - Experian reports past due at 60 days(!!??) Even though the previous months payment shows OK. Can I get this removed from my credit report or adjusted? Would it positively affect my score more than 2 years later? Current scores: 715,727,704 Thanks, eros18

Nice scores!

Yes it will improve your score a bit to have those corrected.  Due to the issue you had , I would not bother disputing etc. yet as I think they will correct it if you are honest and friendly with the creditor on the phone.

I had such high hopes with from your reply. I just called and as per the customer service rep and the supervisor they cannot make adjustments to the account since it's already closed. I can file a dispute with the credit bureau and they will follow up with Ford Motor Credit's Credit dispute department. They could not give me a number for that department.

Auto loans are harder than the regular credit card late... but it was definitely worth your time to call.  Sorry you didn't get far, but glad you at least made it to a supervisor.

They can correct it, stinks that they would not but that's not the end.  You might want to write a GW letter explaining that this was not your fault and would they kindly correct this issue... but send it to someone higher up.

Or, yes you can file the dispute now and see if that clears all up.

Welcome to the boards!  Smiley Happy

My suggestion is that you send a request in writing, stating the circumstances surrounding the lates. Ask nicely for a good faith gesture. You'd be surprised how well GWs are received by companies. Using the telephone is not likely to help.

Good luck.
